What is RDC?

Remote Deposit Capture (RDC) refers to the ability to deposit checks into a bank account from one's home or office without having to physically deliver the actual check to the bank. Alternatively, RDC also refers to a platform and the process of electronically capturing check images and data, transmitting that information for deposit and clearing, and truncating the original paper checks.

This is typically accomplished by scanning a digital image of a check onto a computer, then transmitting that check image to the bank, a practice that became legal in the US in 2004 when the Check Clearing for the 21st Century Act (or Check 21 Act) took effect. This service is typically used by businesses, though a remote deposit application for consumers is available today as well through eMerchantSolution TotalTransact RDC.

How does it work?

  • A merchant signs up for RDC services through an RDC Service Provider such as eMerchantSolution through TotalTransact RDC.
  • Using a computer with Internet access allows the merchant to access our website and login to our secure Payment Gateway using their unique Username and Password.
  • Once accessed, a TotalTransact RDC account allows the merchant to scan checks and debit customer’s accounts for payment of goods offered or services rendered and collect the funds in merchant’s account . An image of the check goes to your bank, and the bank begins the process of collecting money from the customer who wrote the check to the merchant.
  • TotalTransact RDC compiles and transfers the transaction for transfer to the banks and upon acceptance by the bank, releases the funds to the merchant account for payment. Funds are released later according to the agreed upon release day of funds between the merchant and eMerchantSolution.
